Whose standards are we to live by?
How do we know what standards are the right standards?
There are many opinions about how life should be lived and the principles that should guide us. The inconsistencies of values can cause great confusion to those trying to determine right from wrong and live an upright life.
Who should we listen to? Who's right?
Navigating life well requires truth, insight, and wisdom. Where or to whom do we turn for guidance and direction? Are we simply guessing at what's good and righteous, or worse, following how the world says we should live? Oftentimes we rely on those around us for advice, support, and guidance. Whether that's good or not depends on what or who an individual's standards and values are based upon.
As Christians, we know where to turn. We are blessed to know Jesus is The Way, The Truth, and The Life (John 14:6) and we have a resource to teach us His ways and guide us--the Bible. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness." (2 Tim 3:16).
What a gift it is to know that our standards for what is good, just, righteous, and trustworthy come from God Himself, as evidenced by Jesus. We don't have to question the source. Our hearts do not have to be unsettled or troubled when we follow the values provided through God's Word. How comforting!
Yet there remains a challenge.
To live a life according to the LORD's standards, we need to know God's Word (the Bible), understand His teachings, invite the Holy Spirit to speak to us and guide us daily, and then apply His principles in our lives. Learning about Jesus is a matter of spending time with Him--in worship, in the Bible, in fellowship with others who are on the same path of knowing Him, and in deliberate application of what we've learned.
This requires commitment, diligence, and help. It's no small task, but we can succeed with the Holy Spirit strengthening us and leading the way, and with a few simple tools.
Living Life the Lord's Way is dedicated to teaching God's Word, providing practical tools, and engaging women in uplifting and encouraging spiritual growth and life change.
